BNPD kicks off school year with nifty, new car | Crime
BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) – As the new school year begins, the Benton Police Department (BNPD) is trying something new to gain a good relationship with students.
The police department recently introduced an additional school resource officer, Bobby Shell. BNPD said Shell has been in law enforcement for 15 years, has 1,500 hours of certified training, and experience in various different departments over the years.
In addition, a new, not so traditional school resource officer vehicle has been introduced.
“The new school resource officer vehicle is a Chevrolet Corvette that was an asset forfeiture provided courtesy of your local drug dealer,” said a spokesperson for the department. “A sports car was chosen due to the unique nature of it not being a traditional police vehicle, which allows for rapport building between officers and students. “
