BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) – Three Benton businesses have been cited after the police department ran undercover alcohol compliance checks.

According to Lt. Kevin Russell, six restaurants passed and three failed; the restaurants that failed the check were Eat My Catfish, Colton’s Steakhouse, and the Moose Lodge.

Russell said during the investigations, an undercover officer accompanies a minor into a business. The minor then tries to order an alcoholic beverage, and if served, the minor excuses themselves from the business, leaving the officer to take over the citation process.

The police department said the checks are done to ensure that minors are not being served alcohol.

Benton High School changing drug testing policy

Benton High School changing drug testing policy

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV)- Parents are talking about policy changes to Benton High School's drug testing policy. "I've seen high school students drug tested for more than a decade now," said Athletic Director Coach Randy McFarlin.

Benton High School students in sports and spirit groups used to get tested once a year before the start of their sport's season. The new policy modifications will now include band members in the drug testing pool. The students will be subjected to eight random drug tests throughout the year.

"We're outsourcing the collection of the specimen and the testing to medical laboratories in Little Rock." It's part of an attempt to improve the accuracy of the testing as well as enforce the confidentiality of the process. "We used to have our school nurses perform the procedure here, but this is better," said Coach McFarlin.
