Re-Fashion Bash returns to Benton

BENTON, Ark. - Recycle Saline is hosting its second annual Re-Fashion Bash “Where Green is the New Black” Saturday, May 7th. 

Re-Fashion Bash is an upbeat recycling fashion show highlighting Saline County students on the runway.  They will walk the runway wearing trash that has been turned into treasure, showing off their fashion in hopes of winning top prize money.

The Benton Event Center doors will open at 5 p.m. and the show will start at 6 p.m.

There will be first ($500), second ($250), and third ($100) place prizes awarded to the top designers.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.00. All the money raised from Re-Fashion Bash goes to the YEA! Team (Youth Environmental Ambassadors) program sponsored by Recycle Saline.

Wold renowned Kinsey Collection Comes to MTCC

Join MTCC for the opening of our largest exhibit to date, African American Treasures from the Kinsey Collection. This once in a life changing exhibit, that is currently on display at Epcot Center at Walt Disney World will open at MTCC on Friday, April 8, at 6PM. The exhibit contains rare, one of a kind artifacts that will be displayed in Arkansas for the first time ever. These artifacts work to dispel the myth of absence and demonstrate that African American history is American history.

The opening will feature a presentation by the Kinseys, refreshments, and live entertainment provided by Rodney Block and the Real Music Lovers.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - If you are feeling the luck of the Irish on Thursday then downtown Hot Springs is where you need to be. 

On March 17, four-leaf clovers and anything green will cover the streets of Hot Springs, Ark. This is all in celebration for St. Patrick's Day.

The city is known for having the world's shortest parade celebrating this irish holiday. Their schedule of events leading up to the historic parade, include:

4:30 p.m.- Blarney Stone Kissing Contest at Arkansas Blarney Stone

5:30 p.m. - Festivities kick off with special guests at Bridge Street

6:25 p.m. - Measuring of the parade route at Bridge Street

6:30 p.m. - World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade at Bridge Street

Following the parade will be a free concert by The Bacon Brothers.

Freedom from smoking support groups at UAMS

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Anyone ready to quit smoking is invited to join one of two support groups starting in March at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

The Freedom from Smoking evening session will meet from 5:30-7 p.m. for seven Tuesdays beginning March 15 in the UAMS College of Public Health, Room 3202.

The daytime session will meet from 3-4:30 p.m. for seven Wednesdays beginning March 16 at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute’s Patient Support Pavilion.

Oaklawn cancels Thursday's races

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Oaklawn management made the decision to cancel Thursday’s nine-race card after more than five inches of rain left the track too saturated for racing.

“The safety of the horses and riders is always our first concern,” said Director of Racing David Longinotti. “The rain began about 3 p.m. Tuesday and has barely stopped since.”

Oaklawn remains open for gaming and simulcast racing. The game room will remain open until 3 a.m. 

Live racing is scheduled to resume Friday with a 1:30 p.m. first post.

Boys and Girls Club of Bryant closing early due to rain

BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) - The heavy rainfall on Wednesday caused the Boys and Girls Club of Bryant to close up shop early. 

Rain was back in the forecast this week, causing high chances of flooding. The Boys and Girls Club of Bryant released Wednesday afternoon that they would close early due to that issue.

Parents were asked to pick up their children before 5 p.m.
