Police: Man shoots friend mistaken for burglar | News
BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) -- Benton police say a man is being treated for a gunshot wound inflicted by his friend, who mistook him for an intruder.
It happened late Wednesday night at a home on Galloway Drive. Michael Moon, 29, who is a friend of the family, received a call from Laura Akers.
According to the police report, Laura had been unable to make contact with her husband, Joshua Akers, 27. Laura requested that Moon respond to her residence and attempt to make contact with Joshua. Moon said that he rang the doorbell several times, "banged on" the windows around the home, and made a lot of noise around the exterior of the house in an attempt to get Joshua to hear him and answer the door. Moon advised Laura that he could not get a response from Joshua.
At this point, police say Laura asked for Moon to kick in the door because she feared something was wrong.
As Moon was attempting to kick in the door, Joshua said that he was woken by loud and violent banging at his front door. He said that he was extremely scared and grabbed his pistol. Joshua said by the time he made it to his living room, his front door was being kicked in, so he fired rounds through the door. One of them struck Moon.
Moon was transported to a Little Rock hospital for his injury. A criminal investigation is being conducted.
