Man pleads guilty to horse cruelty

BENTON, AR - Robert Everett Keck, of Alexander, pled guilty to one count of Aggravated Cruelty to a Horse, a class “D” felony, and was sentenced to two (2) years’ incarceration at the Arkansas Department of Correction followed by a two (2) year suspended sentence. Keck’s plea stems from his severe neglect of several horses, dogs, and a pony that were found on his property on October 21, 2009.

Law enforcement officers from the Saline County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence of Keck on West Lawson Road for a report that several horses were in a field without food and water.  Detectives Jason Ballard and Ron Parsons responded to concerns from the on-scene officer Corporal Mike Watson, that the animals were in an “extremely bad condition,” and would need immediate medical attention.

Kay Simpson and Dr. Teresa Medlock with the Pulaski County Humane Society took custody of the animals for medical treatment.
