BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) - Kids are out of school and ready to enjoy summer. As a parent, you are looking for things to get your little ones out of the house and outside. The City of Bryant has come to the rescue. 

The Bryant Parks and Recreation, with the generous donation from Lander's Auto, have announced a schedule of summer events for the whole family. 

The summer lineup includes: 

Basketball tournament to benefit local youth organizations

Basketball tournament to benefit local youth organizations

BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) - Boys and girls of all ages will hit the basketball courts on June 6 not only for the competition, but also for a good cause. 

Chick-fil-A off Reynolds Road in Bryant is teaming up with Landers of Benton and Team USA to host a Chick-fil-A Connect 3ON3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, June 6. The event will be held at Bishop Park in Bryant and will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Bryant and Team USA.

"We are very grateful for our growing customer base and believe strongly in giving back to the community where ever we can. It's a must," said Guy Parker, owner/operator of Bryant Chick-fil-A and sponsor of the tournament. The Chick-fil-A Connect 3ON3 Basketball Tournament will be a great way to provide fun and entertainment, while raising money for...two organizations that help ensure great futures for our local youth."

Benton PD needs help locating runaway teen

Benton PD needs help locating runaway teen

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - The Benton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a 17-year-old who ran away from his home Thursday, April 23.

Christopher Bennett left his home Thursday, and according to reports, has not been seen from his parents since. 

Bennett is described as being a white male standing at approximately 5'6" tall and weighing at around 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He is believed to still be in the central Arkansas area. 

Police stated that any person who knowingly harbors a runaway could face charges. 

Anyone with information about Bennett's whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Benton Police Department at (501) 778-1171 or (501) 315-TIPS.

 

BNPD launches "My Safer City” initiative

BNPD launches "My Safer City” initiative

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - During the month of April, the Benton Police Department is going to try and raise awareness to the alcohol and drug related substance abuse in the community. 

The police's initiative "My Safer City" plans to give more information about substance abuse through classes that will target those most likely to be affected. 

The school resource officers will be teaching classes this month to students about the dangers of drinking and driving along with illicit drug usage. According to officials, some of the classes will be targeting high school students prior to upcoming events such as prom and graduation.  

In addition to the classes, the Benton Police Department is also holding Operation Medicine Cabinet XI on April 25. Officers will staff a drop-off location, Ferguson's Furniture off Military Road, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for people to drop off all of their old or unused medications.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Ark. Youth Leadership Initiative) - Kids from across Arkansas will convene in Little Rock to join in the fight against tobacco and other nicotine use on Wednesday, March 18th with a Silent March and Mock Funeral along Capitol Avenue, followed by a press conference on the steps of the State Capitol.

Sponsored by the Arkansas Youth Leadership Initiative and other public health partners, Arkansas Tobacco Free Kids Day is an annual celebration of youth leadership and activism in the fight against tobacco use. Kids are sending two powerful messages on this day: They want the tobacco companies to stop targeting them with marketing for cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and other tobacco products and they want elected leaders to do more to protect them from tobacco.

Re-Fashion Bash to feature students' recyclable designs

BENTON, Ark. - Saline County students will be showcasing their recycled material fashion designs. 

On Saturday, April 11 at 5 p.m., be a part of Re-Fashion Bash “Where Green is the New Black.” It will be held at the Benton Event Center. This event will highlight Saline County students of all ages walking the runway turning trash to treasure. Come out and support your students on this memorable red carpet night.

Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the Saline County Regional Solid Waste Management District Office located at 114 W. Sevier Street in downtown Benton. Top recycled designs will receive prize money, with first place receiving $500, second place $250, and third place $100.

Bryant Boys and Girls Club receives $25,000 grant

Bryant Boys and Girls Club receives $25,000 grant

BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) - The Heart of Arkansas United Way will announce Friday, Feb. 27 that the Bryant Boys and Girls Club will receive a grant of $25,000.

This grant is meant to help the organization with healthy snacks for all of the students who attend their afterschool program for the 2015 calendar year. Currently, over 40 percent of the Bryant Boys and Girls Club's members are eligible for free or reduced lunches and the grant will help provide healthy after school snacks no matter what the financial issues are in the home.
