Oaklawn cancels Thursday's races

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Oaklawn management made the decision to cancel Thursday’s nine-race card after more than five inches of rain left the track too saturated for racing.

“The safety of the horses and riders is always our first concern,” said Director of Racing David Longinotti. “The rain began about 3 p.m. Tuesday and has barely stopped since.”

Oaklawn remains open for gaming and simulcast racing. The game room will remain open until 3 a.m.

Live racing is scheduled to resume Friday with a 1:30 p.m. first post.

BENTON, Ark. - The Benton Police Department is getting “Back In Your Business” during the entire month of December to increase officer visibility, sustain good community relationships and deter crimes at businesses in the city.

2014’s “In Your Business” initiative had such a resounding success with business owners and the entire community, that we are utilizing the program again this holiday season.

In this proactive initiative, officers will exit their patrol cars, introduce themselves to the owners and workers, and later will provide contact information and material on joining the Benton Business Watch program (if the business isn’t already a member). In addition to the full-time officers, the police department will also utilize reserve officers to provide extra patrol of businesses.
