Multi-agency warrant sweep in Saline County

Tuesday, Saline County authorities along with U.S. marshals rounded up 35 fugitives. In a sweep planned for months, police raided the homes of suspects facing charges including weapons, forgery, drugs and burglary.

Most are non-violent offenses, but as Lt. Scottie Courtney says, that could change at a moment's notice.

"Anytime you serve a warrant or anything, it could turn into a potential dangerous situation," says Courtney of the Saline Co. Sheriff's Office.

With the help of residents like this man, some are easier to track down than others.

One fugitive is even arrested on his special day. "I was thinking happy birthday."

Question: "Today's your birthday."

"Yeah, I was coming tomorrow to turn myself in."

It will now be the job of county prosecutors in Saline County to review the cases and ensure that those guilty of the charges are brought to justice.

Fire truck turns over off S. Sardis Rd.

The truck overturned near Hurricane Creek on South Sardis Road around 8 p.m. Monday night.

Saline County deputies say the fire truck was not on its way to a call, but actually on it's way back to the station.

Fire Chief Daniel Hicks says no other cars were involved. He says, "Apparently their wheels dropped off the side of the road, they got turned back up onto the road and when it did, they lost traction."

The firefighters' injuries are not life-threatening.

Tuesday, Sgt. Dudderar was dispatched to a house on Casa Lane in reference to a physical disturbance with shots fired.

When the deputy arrived, he heard two gunshots coming from the house he was sent to. Approximately five minutes later, a woman identified as Jo Walker approached Sgt. Dudderar crying hysterically about her boyfriend, John Johnson.

Walker stated that Johnson was "crazy and shooting up the house." She also said that Johnson had hit her several times on her head with a gun. Sgt. Dudderar asked if anyone else was in the house and Walker said no, and Sgt. Dudderar couldn't see any visible injuries on Walker.

Sgt. Dudderar called in to Central Communications and advised them of the situation. Central told the deputy that Johnson was not going to come outside and that he was watching me from his house.
