Benton PD searching for card fraud suspect

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - The Benton Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect behind the fraudulent use of a bank card. 

On January 7, a woman informed Benton police that unauthorized transactions totaling to several hundred dollars had been made from her bank account. However, the victim still had possession of the bank card, and she believed the suspect used the bank card numbers.

The victim stated that transactions occurred at a Benton business on Dec. 17, 2015.

Benton PD welcomes Dino to K-9 unit

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - The Benton Police Department has a new officer joining the force that has an exceptional nose, a passion for chewing on tennis balls and is ready to take a bite out of crime. 

Dino is an 18-month-old Belgian Malinois, who has been training for eight weeks with the Little Rock K-9 Academy to become a Police Patrol and Narcotic Detector Dog. According to the K-9 Academy Public Information Officer/Instructor Clay Smith, Dino has become a dual purpose dog. 

"Traditionally people think of police dogs as narcotics dogs, but Dino is also trained for the patrol aspect...He’s able to track suspects down and alert their position to the handler," said Smith.

Benton PD reporting reduced crime rates in 2015

BENTON, Ark. (BNPD) - There was more than a 4 percent decrease of crimes overall in the City of Benton in 2015 in comparison to 2014 crime statistics, according to the latest annual crime report. Officers from the Benton Police Department responded to 45,432 calls for service in 2015 and spent 10,836 hours in various training programs; supervisors received a total of 758 hours of supervision training.

Though crime statistics increased in violent crime, up 9.09 percent, Benton Police Chief Kirk Lane explained that the rise is rare for the city.

Two women arrested on drug charges at Benton motel

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - Two women were arrested on Thursday night at the Capri Inn Motel for numerous drug related charges. 

After receiving numerous complaints of drug trafficking in and around the Capri Inn, the Benton Police Department narcotic division conducted an investigation, which led to the felony arrest of Capri Inn employee, 47-year-old Brenda Peebles. Janice Brown, 59, who was staying in a separate room, was also arrested . 

2 suspects plead guilty in armed Ark. IHOP robbery

SALINE COUNTY, Ark. (BPD) - Saline County Prosecuting Attorney Ken Casady announced that two of the four suspects arrested for an armed robbery at the IHOP in Bryant entered guilty pleas to Aggravated Robbery on Monday, January 12, 2015.  Judge Gary Arnold accepted deputy prosecuting attorney Brian Clary’s recommendation and sentenced Ibrhiem Delgado, of Atlanta, GA, and Christian Harris, of Dallas, TX, to 10 years’ imprisonment at the Department of Correction.


Benton burglary suspected arrested


BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) – Benton police arrested a man suspected of a burglary early Monday morning.

According to a police report from the Benton Police department, officers responded to a call of a residential burglary in progress on Edison Ave. and noticed a man running toward Lance’s Convenience Store.

The suspect, Eric Cooper, 34, of Benton, was stopped at the back of the store.

Cooper was positively identified as the suspect in the burglary and was taken into custody.

Cooper faces charges of Residential Burglary, Public Intoxication, and Criminal Mischief. He was transported to the Saline County jail.
