Shots fired at Benton High School twice in one week

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - "We usually end our walk walking Cupcake the dog here," Jeffrey Lipinski explained. Jeffrey and Barbara Lipinski take their daily evening stroll, usually cutting through Benton High School. But in recent weeks they have noticed a few things out of the ordinary. Lipinski continued, "Glass all over the ground and we said someone's vandalized the school window."

Benton school district would not comment on camera nor release surveillance video to THV Wednesday afternoon; only sending a media release describing the two incidents.

According to the school district, on August 30, the suspect was riding what appeared to be a scooter or moped and was wearing a mask as multiple shots were fired into the glass of the rotunda. In the second incident on September 5, the suspect was driving what appeared to be a dark colored car as they speedily drove by and fired shots at the cafeteria windows. Lipinski said, "Benton city police walking both sides of the road carefully looking down for something small. They were in the grass, they were on the road, they were looking everywhere."

Fortunately both cases have occurred during late night hours, and not while students were in the building. Barbara Lipinski said, "We're just sad somebody would vandalize such a great school, very distressing." Parents say someone needs to step forward and turn themselves in. Barbara says, "Somebody knows what happened. They need to come forward."

Benton School district is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that can lead to the identification and arrest of the person or persons responsible for vandalism at the high school.

If you have any information regarding either of these incidents please contact the school district's School Resource Officer, Sgt. Lisa Stuart at 501-776-5948. You may also text an anonymous tip by typing "BNPD" plus your message to CRIMES (274637).
