BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - In recognition of veterans in the community, the Benton Police Department is launching the 'Saluting Our Heroes' Initiative during the month of November.

The 'Saluting Our Heroes' Initiative was created as a way to say thank you to veterans and to salute them for their service to our country.

The idea of this initiative is loosely centered around the Veteran's Day holiday that is recognized every November. In addition to paying tribute to the veterans in the community, both living and deceased, this initiative is a way for officers to get out of their patrol cars and meet various individuals throughout the community.

The initiative will also pay respect to some of the Benton officers who are veterans. The officers, along with some information about their military service, will be featured as a way of telling them thank you for their service to the community.

If you or somebody you know is a veteran living in Benton, you are encouraged to contact the Benton Police Department at (501) 778-1171, and they will make every attempt to have an officer stop by and visit. You may also contact the department about this initiative through their free official BNPD app found on the Apple and Google stores.
