Benton man charged in fatal 3-vehicle accident

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) – A Benton man has been charged in connection to a fatal three-vehicle accident.

On Tuesday morning, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to a three-vehicle accident near the intersection of Edison Ave. and Pope St.

Police reports stated that a vehicle driven by 38-year-old Vincent Heredia had crossed left of the center line and struck one vehicle before striking a second one head-on. This lead to the death of the driver of the second vehicle, 24-year-old Cheyenne McManigal of Benton.

During further investigation, detectives located a firearm, prescription medications, and a paraphernalia inside Heredia's vehicle.

A drug recognition expert evaluation was conducted and based on the results, Heredia was placed under arrest.

He is charged with manslaughter, DWI-drugs, driving left of center, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Detectives and members of the accident reconstruction team are conducting an on-going investigation into the incident and additional charges could be forthcoming.
